Providence Anesthesiology Associates Hires CEO
CHARLOTTE, NC, January 5, 2017 – Providence Anesthesiology Associates (PAA), a private, physician-led practice of 65 anesthesiologists, has for the first time hired an outside CEO to take over business and growth initiatives, allowing PAA’s physicians to focus their efforts on patient care. Longtime healthcare executive Mark Casner joined PAA as chief executive officer in November 2016.
“We’re excited to welcome Mark to our team,” said James Benonis, MD, President of Providence Anesthesiology Associates. “We’ve been fortunate to experience continued growth despite a growing trend of hospital and corporate takeovers. We’ve expanded our services to include office-based anesthesia, created a billing solution for private anesthesiology practices like ours, and even launched a movement to Keep Anesthesiology Private. We’re thrilled with our success, but as practicing physicians, taking care of patients is our passion and what we do best. We’re excited to have Mark’s leadership to provide us with the proper business and administrative support.”
Casner’s background includes 30 years of experience in maximizing revenue growth, optimizing business performance, developing leaders and facilitating successful business turnarounds. He has served as president, CEO and COO for a list of healthcare-related companies, from cardiology, radiology and anesthesiology practices to medical management groups.
In his new role as CEO for PAA, Casner will lead the continued growth of the office-based anesthesia offering, which enables surgeons to perform many elective procedures in an outpatient office setting instead of a hospital. This benefits both patients and providers through convenience and cost savings, and PAA’s board-certified anesthesiologists ensure the same level of safety that patients receive in a hospital. Casner also will support PAA’s outreach efforts to other private anesthesiology practices as they continue their mission to Keep Anesthesiology Private.
“PAA has a passion for excellence,” said Casner. “Their clinicians are of the highest caliber, yet they are always taking proactive measures to improve quality and the patient experience. But then they take it a step further and look for ways to share those findings with other groups like theirs. They truly believe in the private practice model, and they want to see it succeed across the board. This kind of dedication and determination spoke to me. I look forward to taking their efforts to the next level.”
